Sorry this review is a week late, it’s been a busy week!

The 8th episode of Tokyo Magnitude entitled “White Morning” doesn’t have much in the way of action or even any after shocks, but still continues to carry the high level of suspense and emotion this series is so great at displaying. I hope you paid close attention to this episode, as there are several clues in the midst of what’s going on indicating something big happened.

The ep starts off with Mari bringing the unconscious Yuuki to the hospital. There are is an overwelming amount of sick people there, and many of them are dying. Mirai drifts off into a long dream where she finds Yuuki laying dead in a medical bed. She wakes up from the dream, and Mari brings her up to the waiting room outside of the operating room.

Mirai and Mari wait there for what seems like hours, and finally a doctor comes out, whispers a few words, and bows his head. It’s a very tense scene, and Mirai and Mari react with disbelief at Yuuki’s death. I was almost convinced this time, but then Mirai wakes up from the dream .. as the first one was a dream within a dream.

tokyo-magnitude-8-bWhen Mirai wakes up she’s in a sleeping bag outside of the medical facility. She runs to find Yuuki, and discovers him running around playing soccer with some other kids. Yuuki is fine, he did only have a fever after all, and is playing soccer with some other kids. Mirai is full of relief but orders him to take it easy. She tells Yuuki about her dream, and just like in every situation Yuuki lets off a mindless laugh.

Meanwhile Mari is in what I think is the hospital building taking care of some legal documents (what exactly for …?). She see’s on the television that the fires have finally been extinguished in the Sangenjaya area where she lives with her daughter and mother. Most of the damage was to the business district, however the fire did spread to some residential area’s.

Mirai and Yuuki join back up with Mari, and can tell that she’s definitely not herself. She tells Mirai that she put a note into Yuuki’s bag for their parents, and Mirai replies with “i wonder if they’ll notice”.

This may just be speculation, but it almost feels like Yuuki has actually died. For one, why did Mari need to sign “legal documents” at the hospital. Also, Mari only talks to Mirai after they meet up .. and does not directly communicate with Yuuki whatsoever. The “note” that Mari left for Yuuki’s parents is the biggest clue, what else could this be? There is also the fact that Mirai is now carrying Yuuki’s backpack. Why is Mari apologizing to Mirai in such a deep level, and has a look of complete dispair on her face. Lastly, in the last couple seconds of the episode Yuuki is seen standing by the entrance to the park, however when it pans out you can see Mirai but Yuuki is no where to be found. It’s almost like Mirai’s reality is separate from actual reality .. this is getting interesting.

This was by far the most interesting episode yet. With the trio being so close to Sangenjaya, we can hope to see if Mari’s daughter Hina and her mother are alright next episode. More importantly, is Yuuki still alive, or an illusion within Mirai’s reality?

    Rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆

Now that I’ve seen episode 9 RAW (I just couldn’t wait any longer), there’s just one thing to say: They extended the cliffhanger for another episode, but they gave us a few hints on the subject “Yuuki, is he dead or alive?”. We’ll just have to wait and -breathe deeply- see.

Ah your kidding .. My Japanese isn’t good enough so I’m waiting for the sub … how could they prolong this suspense? … after all that chaos it’s hard to believe that Yuuki would die from a fever?
