The 17th episode of my favorite currently airing anime Tears to Tiara is entitled “For Friends”. And this was named well as Arthur finally breaks out of his shallow mind set of being bound to pledges and obligations.

Avalon is still under siege but the Gaels are somehow holding strong. Arawns wounds have healed but he is still in a deep sleep. In his subconscious he is having a conversation with Pwyll regarding the past and how Arawn became a spirit and stood up for the elves.

Meanwhile Arthur is rushing to gain the help of the Brigantes, but as he arrives Taliesin is waiting in his path. Taliesin explains that he must defeat him before he may pass, however this time Arthur is not quick to pull out his blade. Noticing a change in Aura has, Taliesin asks what Arthur is truly fighting for. Arthur explains that he finally see’s the simple truth and is fighting for his friends and those important to him .. even Arawn.

With that being said, Taliesin assembles the brave men of Brigantes and we find out that he is the son of the last chief inheritor of the Brigantes curse (whatever that is) and places Arthur in charge of himself and his men.

We also learn a bit more about Gaius in this episode and that he plans on starting a revolution after this war against the empire. He feels he can create a more comfortable and lenient country. However, he is intent on defeating the Gaels first. This is the one thing that is bugging me .. if he plans on a revolution then why wouldn’t he join forces with the Gaels? .. He’s already seen how pure hearted Rhiannon is, so why continue to fight? It pisses me off when the bad guys aren’t hateable.

The episode ends with the Empire bashing through Avalons gate of life with their massive “ram”. This episode wasn’t exactly packed full of action but did a great job setting the stage for the next episode which should be formidable. Like always .. I’m loving this anime!
