The battle rages on! Jiraiya is trying to uncover who Pain is and what are his powers. Having lost his arm, Jiraiya is outmatched by the six Pains now appearing before him. Of the six, the one called Tendo is revealed to be Jiraiya’s former student Yahiko. Jiraiya is still puzzled by the Rinnegan’s true powers, but before he can gather his thoughts, he is forced back into battle. Jiraiya manages to capture one of the Pains in a barrier, and strikes him with a Rasengan but also gets stabbed by the Pain’s final attack. Pain’s headband comes undone and Jiraiya realizes he has fought him before and gave him a scar on his forehead. Jiraiya then tells the toads Ma & Pa to go back but Pa refuses and Ma goes alone.

Jiraiya resurfaces from the barrier and realizes that the six Pains are all ninjas that he’s met before. Putting various pieces of information together, Jiraiya figures out Pain’s true identity, but Pain doesn’t intend to allow Jiraiya to leave with that information alive. Jiraiya and Pa try to fight the Pains, but Jiraiya gets ambushed and has his throat crushed and then stabbed by all five at once and is nearing death. As he is passing out he remembers Minato and how he is Naruto’s godfather. He remembers how Naruto never gives up because it’s his way of the ninja and tries to sit up. The Pains realize he is not dead and go back to finish him off, but before they do Jiraiya manages to write something in code on Pa’s back. The Pains discovered that there was a secret message on the back of Pa and it went like this: 9, 31, 8 106, 7 207, 15. Pain then launched an attack on Pa but fortunately, he managed to escape.

The small land on which Jiraiya’s body was resting on was destroyed by Pain’s attack and Jiraiya’s body begins to sink into the waters. While sinking into the waters, he was thinking that dying this way would be honorable and that the book “The Tale of Jiraiya The Gallant” would have a great ending. He was also thinking about the title for his next book and it would be called “The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki”. Meanwhile, Naruto is traveling along the forest when suddenly he feels something on his shoulder(almost like Jiraiya passing the torch). Definitely a memorable moment for all the Jiraiya fans. He will be missed.
